I painted our Alder wood!

Yes, I am obsessed with chalk board paint. It’s just so darn handy for way to many things!

My overacting note taking mind {OCD} was in dire need of a place to jot down random thoughts and what I needed to pick up at the store.

My dear, dear husband has tried for the past two years for me to use my iphone. He loves it and can’t live without it. I, on the other hand, just started text messaging this year and upped my 200 text a month plan. He has even gone as far as to purchase mobile me so that all our calendars can stay “connected”. It was a lost cause!

Call me old, I don’t care. But I HAVE to write it down and draw a line through it. There’s just something soothing about the whole process for me. It’s like a computer downloading something onto a disc.

So, with my kitchen layout, wall space is limited to hang much of anything.

That’s when I decided to just paint our Alder wood!

Yes, I did!

Three coats of magnetic paint

And two coats of chalkboard paint.

And three days later I had a central command post that I could be proud of.

Hey, it’s a home that we LIVE in!

  1. You gotta do what works for you, Kate! I have limited wall space in my kitchen, too, due to the placement of doorways, windows and cabinets.

  2. I think it's a great idea. And yes I totally agree, our home is for the ones who live there. Make it work for YOU and your precious family! I think it's adorable. Maybe I'll do the same! I have a galley kitchen so this would be an easy way to gain a message center. Thanks for sharing!

  3. LOVE it!
I am the exact same way!
I love making lists & there is such a sense of accomplishment in the simple act of drawing a line through it.
No iphone can bring me that!
I also still use a paper desk calender.
    Looks great.
And I hope your son is feeling better, poor thing!

  4. Okay, I'm loving this idea! One of those crazy things that probably made you ask, "Why didn't I do this sooner?" I've been wanting to do something like this for months! Now, I'm off to write chalk board paint on my hand written grocery list!
