FRIDAY!

I hope that you have a Gooey Butter Cake kinda weekend, 'nuff said!

I know, I know, Paula Deen is not the healthiest cook. But her recipes have NEVER let me down. Making them only on special occasion. And I am looking at thinking one up this weekend just so I can make this again! Come to think of it , I would like to fit back into my jeans this fall.

So easy and fabulous!

Gooey Butter Cake
{ingredients}
Cake:
1 18 1/4- oz package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted
Filling:
1 8-ounce package cream cheese,softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 16-ounce box/bag powdered sugar
{Directions}
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13x9- inch baking pan. Prepare filling.
In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs,vanilla, and butter and beat together.
Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well. Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.

Good ole' books...

I am a true lover of all books. Though, over the years, life has played a bigger role and I have dwindled in the number I get to read. I still enjoy all the great places they take me and the adventures I go on.

When Hannah was a baby I started reading to her all the time. Not just books but what ever was around us. Sadly, she has yet to share in my love. Granted she likes the concept of the books. Checking them out, buying them, caring them all around. Hannah just cant sit still longer than a chapter. She is my constant work in progress.

My entire family loves old children's books. The illustrations and colors are amazing. The kiddos especially like the library books with the old dewey decimal system. It's exciting to look over the library cards and see who read the book before them. It's fun for mom and dad to reminisce over all the books we remember from our childhood. And the kids find it hard to believe that we are THAT old! Most of these I have picked up over the years at local garage sales, Goodwill, and our city's annual library book sale. This is one of my favorites...mainly for the cover alone. I was able to pick this one up at a local sale for $.50.

Hannah did like this one. Even more when daddy told her the story about when he visited the real Liberty Bell. And how one day he hoped to take her there. {I chimed in and he started calling me the Liberty Bell, little sinker!}

We hope that this year we will see some snow to play in rather than our normal ice fall that we get.

Check with your local library and find out what day they hold their book sale {and write it in your calendar, blackberry, iPhone whatever}. You and your kids will have such a great time.

Ma' we need silly"puddy"...

Driving little man to pre-k this morning he shouts out to me from the back seat...

Mama can we make Silly "puddy"?

We need 4 twablespoons gluoo...some flour...some sugar...and a little salt.

Sure thing baby!

Mommy, I love you!

It's random moments like this that put a smile in my heart.

Chop Suey!

A few weeks ago {while on one of my grab -and-go Target runs} my kiddos discovered these...

while waiting at the deli. Don't get me wrong they have encountered them on more than one occasion when dinning at our favorite Chinese restaurant.

They begged to each take one set home. I was about to come back with a fast and firm NO when I thought to myself why not. I have been working on saying "yes" more often rather than taking the easier way out to save ME time and grief. I keep reminding myself they are only going to have one childhood so make it one they want to remember. Besdides, they were free to take right next to the plastic spoons and forks. So I allowed them each to take one.
That night they used their chop sticks at dinner {hot dogs and veggies}. Funny thing was they ate more using chop sticks than me begging them to finish their plate.

So lesson learned when you need your child to eat just whip out those chop sticks. Not only will they set happily eating. It's also a great hand eye coordination task for any age. Trust me I tried it too!

There's Only One...

Harrah Day Parade!

For the past few years the kiddos have been invited to lead Papa's way in the Harrah Day Parade.
Papa owns Sooner State Driving school in town and has allowed the kids to be example student drivers. This year we invited the cousins to join in on the fun and all that candy!

The parade is held in September, almost always on an OU Football game day. So the kids dressed their part to show their Sooner Pride.Here Gabe is geared up and ready to hit the open road.This picture reminds me that I need to get out an lobby to have the driving age raised to at least 25 years of age.Gabe sums up the excitement among the group. I just love all the spunk in that only little eyebrow. It's so tempting to want to cut it but such a part of his little personality. We call this one Spud. He can just about eat his weight in anything. And made sure that the candy was good enough to toss.
As we waited to join the parade line. A local insurance agent was walking down handing out flyer's. I'm not sure what relation the little baggie was, but very glad that it was labeled SPINACH!
Also while we waited the kids had a chance to do a little candy catching.
And then after this picture my camera kindly reminded me that I failed to charge the battery. So I lost the chance to show you just what a blast we all had. If you have the opportunity to make your hometown parade I encourage you to make the time. Your kids will thank you for it all day long.

Dimonds in the ruff...

I really am slacking with posting my Goodwill trash to treasure finds. I promise you I will be pouring more effort into it very soon.

For now here are a few goodies that I picked up last week at my local Goodwill.

My eyes first laid upon this with thought of a gift giving chalkboard. I'm always drawn to things with non-standuard shapes. But, after getting it home and gussying up the frame it grew on me.

So I hung it on my newly painted walls in my laundry room re-do. Not bad lookin' for $3.85!
{Please don't judge me for my top loading washing machine. I just can not bring myself to pay $1,200.00 for a new one until this one flat out dies. I enjoy the top loading much more than the side loading one.}

I have been eyeballing this at Target but in my cheapness just could not bring myself to pay the $59.99 price tag , for plastic. So imagine my happiness when the Goodwill employee rolled this right out of the back room to my feet.

Looking at the price tag I blinked a few times...$3.00 and after my discount $2.90. I was jumping up doing heel kicks to my car. It had a bit of dust on it but looked as if it had never been used. No bad oder's or discoloration. So after a scrub down in the back yard I rolled it right into the laundry room.

Now it's home to the rest of my ribbon.

Happy hunting to you all this weekend.

If You Build it...They will Come...

We found ourselves back in Dallas over Labor Day weekend to catch the OU vs. BYU football game.

No, this is not an unidentified flying object. It's the Dallas Cowboys new stadium and OU was the first football team to hold an official game in it. So of course our curiosity got the best of us and we headed south of the Red River to check it out {with a promise to the kiddos they could swim in the hotel pool}.
As you drive into Arlington TX you can see the roof line of the stadium 10 miles away!
Arriving 3 hours before kick off you would think that parking would be ample. Well, it was at $75.00 per car! We parked over a mile away for $15.00 and took in some much needed exercise. And wouldn't you know with the 90* heat the kids wanted a bottle of water. Sticker price $5.00 each! And my feet took a lickin' and it wasn't a pretty site.

Just to give you an idea of it's size. Look right in the middle you will see two full sized cars parked on the third level! I will have to admit the place was aesthetically pleasing and very clean. It seemed as if they had about one staff employee for every 10 fans. But with parking at a premium and a single hot dog selling for $7.50. This is not a cheap family day outing.

And here is proof that every now and then, I can catch on camera, just how much these two knuckle heads love each other. This was taken moments before brother "accidentally" walked all over sisters fingers.

It's hard for me to every believe that anything is to loud for this little guy. The definition of a boy should read: loud with dirt on it! This is the largest score board EVER I promise. It runs from one 20 yard line to the other. And if you don't believe me just goggle it.

I don't know if we will every make it back to this stadium. But at least we can say that we have gone to Jerry's world!

P.S. No comment on the outcome of the game...
