Meet the Cheez-It Chair

Yes, these first few pictures are from my iphone.

And I've only been able to work with the chair for one shoot.

But, I'm so looking forward to using it a lot this spring.

A Salvation Army find! And it took me over a year to track down my fall seating. This was just a drive by on my way to do something else when it called out to me from the window.

Hannah has knick named it our Cheez-It chair!

E- Stands for EXCELLENT ESTATE SALE!

Still prop shoppin’ for a couch, but loving all the goodies I’m finding while looking.

This was an estate sale that we hit about two weeks ago.

One of those drive forever.... then drive forever down a gravel road.... then drive forever down a dirt road. Wondering if you are alone! Then JACKPOT...you see BARN'S full!

Egg crates and old quilts for $12 bucks.

Owl trivets and buffalo china serving platters.

Cool pillows

And the coolest stool I grabed for a Sr. picture prop and forgot to take full length picture of it. You can see the "coolness" of the bottom in this picture.

Great shelf for little man’s room. He has more “collections” than space. And if you squint you can see the postal numbers in the back of each box.

This STOP sign he wanted on our last outing, it was $65.00, this one just $5 bucks.

I love it when I hit a great sale.

Couch hunting

I have been on the hunt for MONTHS looking for an old couch to toss out in a filed for pics. And though I have yet to find one I have come across LOTS of other little things along the way.

Like a cute teal blue enamel tea pot, glass storage containers, pretty pictures and finally a set of sterling teaspoons!

I love me an estate sale, don't you?

Estate sale vs. Birthday Party

I hit an Estate sale this past Saturday, while Hannah was at a Fear Factor Birthday party.

Funny now that she is a “tween” having boys come to the birthday party isn’t quite the same as when she was two!

Anyway, they had some really great stuff, if I had been there two hours earlier.

I did end up with this cart, for $8.00.

Brought it home wiped it down and tossed my junk on it.

For now it’s going to hang out here.

I also bought a great big snow shovel. It was 108 that day and I was remembering how just a mere 5 months earlier it was -30 below….

Roadside Hunting

When I see something like this driving down the road

I sit up a little straighter in my set, thinking I’ll get a better view, my heart goes pitter patter and my kiddos moan and groan!

Please tell me there are others out there just like me! This past weekend we ended up with a last minute “free” day, a day that we did not HAVE to watch the clock and be somewhere. That equaled free time to stop and dig through moments like this.

Here’s what my “hunting” got me.

Bag of vintage glass Christmas ornaments.

Two silver plated serving pieces {display only}

A great shaped glass covered pedestal bowl.

And this turquoise ceramic planter.

 All this for $10 BUCKS!!!!

Looking forward to finding a home for them all.

Tween Room Redo

It only took Hannah about 7.5 years to stop loving the color pink. With that track record, after this tween update, I should be good to go until she leaves for college!

Pepto Pink has been replaced with Martha Stewart’s Sharky Gray. A color I l LOVE and one that little man thought was so funny. “Hannah your room is going to be the color of a shark” he would say. At least there is no longer a pink glow shining behind closed doors.

Hannah has taken on her mommy’s love for travel and the city of New York. So we used that as our main inspiration. She had three things she wanted to incorporate into her room. Zebra, the color turquoise and travel. So this is what we came up with.

Remember the N.Y.C. I made using Wal-mart frames and my printer?

And the large New York, New York canvas that I painted?

Her bed went from pretty in pink

To a peppy chic black, white and turquoise dream. We ditched the dust ruffle and added this old trundle my dad had. And a new mattress that my sister gave me. Using her old pillows I sewed and recovered them with the Statue of Liberty.

Spray painted it with our trusty Bahama Breeze blue and tossed on the twin mattress. Perfect for all those sleepovers!

Gone was the hot pink over sized mirror.

Repurposed into a frame for square bulletin boards.

I have been longing to create a collage wall and her room fit the bill.

I used some old Goodwill frames and painted them in an off white.

Framed a few play bills from some shows she has seen.

Created a canvas with the state of New York on it. And updated some super cute owls we found at GW for $1.99.

The zebra bulletin board was a gift to her from a dear friend. We used it to highlight some things she has collected along her travels.

Repainted the “H” and mixed in some super cute square travel plates I found at Crate and Barrel.

Her desk was updated by simply painting the chair, adding a cute bird cage {GW} and a few items she picked up for her birthday.

Framed pictures that I took on our last trip to New York.

And see those curtains? I found the velvet blue panels at Goodwill, $2.99 for the set! I picked up 7 yards of fabric at a discount store for $3.99 a yard and sewed these cute ruffled topped panels for the windows. It was so much easier to use the blue panels as a base.

This total room redo was under $386.00 with the paint costing the most at $122.00 for 2 gallons of paint and 12 cans of spray paint.

And I have one tween smiling from ear to ear.
